Pure and sincere sounds, a beautiful and romantic repertoire, a touching and simply perfect performance – in these many words you could announce the concert 'CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD' given by the SKOWRONKI Girls‘ Choir, conducted by Alicja Szeluga, which was be held on Wednesday, 16 December 2015 at 19:30 in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall, in New York.
SKOWRONKI Girls' Choir and its conductor Alicja Szeluga tooke their guests on a magical musical journey, filled with unique atmosphere of Christmas. The first part of the concert was dedicated to all Poles living in New York who would like to, at this particular time, recal, if only for a while, the atmosphere of Poland and listen to the most beautiful Polish carols. The second part of the concert contained the fine music of contemporary composers from all around the world, with Lisa Young from Australia, Marten Jansson from Sweden and also Polish composers Grzegorz Miśkiewicz and Bartosz Banasewicz.
Alongside the SKOWRONKI Girl's Choir, under the direction of Alicja Szeluga, there performed two vocalists: Marzena Michałowska – a soprano, one of the best and most respected early music interpreter and Monika Krajewska - a mezzo-soprano , well-known to local music lovers, admired for her exceptionally beautiful timbre. The choir was accompanied by Chaslau Lynscha on the piano and Beata Polak on percussion instruments.
The concert was unique because, it wias the first performance of a Polish girls' choir in the history of Carnegie Hall. For lovers of choral music, it was certainly a real treat. SKOWRONKI Girls' Choir stands out because of their incredible spontaneity, freshness of performance and excellent voice emission. But what is especially noteworthy is the fact that their concerts are always joyful meetings with audiences and the beautiful, girlish voices, the charismatic conducting by Alicja Szeluga and an extraordinary repertoire.
In addition to the main concert - at Carnegie Hall - SKOWRONKI Girls' Choir cpuld be heard in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, on the Staten Island, in Welte Hall, Central Connecticut State University, (New Britain), Church of the Annunciation in NYC.
