Choirmaster and educator, amateur musical movement animator.  In 1985 she graduated with honors from Poznan Academy of Music with degree in conducting. Being interested in music and pedagogy, she started her professional career in comprehensive schools running there instrumental and vocal ensembles as well as choirs. She lectured at Teachers College and Academy of Music in Poznan.

She has been SKOWRONKI Girls` Choir art director and conductor since 1991, all the time shaping its repertoire and sound profile. She has performed with Poznan SKOWRONKI Choir in about 20 countries both in Europe and Asia (among others: Germany, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Austria, Denmark, Israel). The choir’s successes equal its conductor’s successes. Choir, under the direction of Alicja Szluga performed approximately 1,000 concerts. SKOWRONKI took part in 22 Polish and international choir competitions, winning top prizes in them. The most important – three times winner of Golden Tuning Fork in the National Choir Competition of Children and Youth (1996, 1998, 2000), first place at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, UK (1995), twice I place in the National Tournament Legnica Cantat in Legnica (2002, 2005) and the first place and GRAND PRIX of the tournament won in 2007, first place and the prize CUM LAUDE at the European Music Festival for Young People in Neerpelt in Belgium (2006), first place in the Festival Internacional de Musica in Cantonigros in Spain (2008) and the first place and GRAND PRIX in Ohrid Choir Festival in Ohrid, Macedonia.

During the choral competitions she was repeatedly assessed as artistic personality (Awards for best conductor in Bydgoszcz, Legnica, Ohrid, Macedonia). SKOWRONKI choir under the direction of Alicja Szeluga was repeatedly invited to participate in Poznan Philharmonic concerts such as: III Symphony of Gustav Mahler, “The music for A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy or world premiere of oratory “Joy of mercy” by Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz.

Conductor Alice Szeluga also prepared the choir for the performance of Karol Szymanowski’s opera “King Roger” in a concert version, at the International Festival Wratislavia Cantans in Wroclaw (2007). In 16th December 2015 she  gave the concert with SKOWRONKI Girls’ Choir at the most prestigious and famous concert hall in the world –  Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Alicja Szeluga’s discography with the SKOWRONKI choir includes over 20 CDs and DVDs with studio and concert recordings. One of the most interesting records is the concert of Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” in the original version, with girls’ choir and orchestra of baroque, referring to the likely performance of 300 years ago.

Alicja Szeluga is the animator of amateur choral movement. She collaborated with the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras MACIERZ in Poznan and in the years 2005 -2008 served as Artistic Director of the Council of the Union. She was awarded the Gold Medal of the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras.

Alongside the music she runs teaching activities as a lecturer and leading workshops for conductors of children’s choirs and youth in Poland and abroad.

She is invited to the jury of Polish and international choir competitions. She is the inventor and director of TRILLME Festival, an International Festival of Girls’ Choirs in Poznan (2014, 2016). In 2011 she was awarded the Badge of Honour: “Merit for the Wielkopolska Region”.
